George Clémenceau's house
In 1919, in the midst of his glory, the “Father of Victory” retired from political life, where he spent the last ten years of his life.
Between the ocean and the fishermen’s house he rented, Georges Clemenceau, a great friend of Claude Monet, realized the challenge of creating an “impressionist garden” on the dune. Three types of gardens surround this fisherman’s house: an impressionist-inspired garden in front of the house, facing the sea, also called “the flowered terrace”, a pointillist-inspired shrub garden (the tops of the small shrubs pruned to a point shiver in the wind) to the east, and finally an “English” garden, also called “flowered enclosure” to the north.
