To reach the island of Noirmoutier, you can either take the bridge linking it to the mainland, or the Passage du Gois, a submersible causeway unique in the world. This 4.5 km-long road “under the sea” links the mainland to the island at low tide only. You can cross it by car, on foot or by bike. In summer, the Gois is even guarded by gendarmes on horseback….Please note that this passage is flooded twice a day at high tide!<\/p>\n\n
The Passage du Gois is one of Vend\u00e9e’s most popular spots for shore fishing. At low tide, you can fish for clams, cockles, scallops, mussels, razor clams and razor clams. Be reasonable in your catching, as it is regulated. <\/p>\n\n
Commonly known as “l’\u00eele aux mimosas”, it offers landscapes of dunes, holm oak forests and salt marshes.<\/p>\n\n
Noirmoutier is also famous for its “Bonnotte”, an early potato harvested in the spring and much sought-after by top restaurateurs.<\/p>\n\n
